
In celebration of Duke University’s centennial, a special webinar led by Dr. Nicoleta Economou, PhD, Director of Duke Health AI Evaluation and Governance, highlighted Duke’s longstanding commitment to Trustworthy AI. Dr. Economou explored Duke’s efforts in evaluating and governing health AI, emphasizing its pioneering achievements and introducing the Duke Health AI Evaluation and Governance Program. The program positions Duke as a leader in health AI by setting standards for responsible and ethical implementation. She also introduced the Algorithm-Based Clinical Decision Support (ABCDS) Oversight initiative and the ABCDS Oversight Committee, which govern and evaluate clinical algorithms at Duke Health. The webinar underscored Duke’s national leadership, particularly as a co-founder of the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI), a collaborative effort advancing responsible AI in healthcare. Additionally, it showcased Duke’s strategic five-year partnership with Microsoft, which has established the Trustworthy & Responsible AI Network (TRAIN). This consortium, composed of healthcare leaders, aims to operationalize responsible AI principles to elevate quality, safety, and trustworthiness in healthcare AI.
