Duke Algorithm-Based Clinical Decision Support (ABCDS) Oversight Director Nicoleta Economou, PhD, recently shared crucial insights on algorithmic governance and oversight while speaking to 4th-year biomedical PhD students enrolled in Duke University’s BIOTRAIN 754 course, "The Responsible Scientist II." The course is developed to engage biomedical PhD trainees in continued Responsible Conduct of Research, and Rigor and Reproducibility (RCR/R&R) training, aligning with the emerging mandate from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). During her lecture, Dr. Economou emphasized the evolving role of AI in biomedical research. She explored the responsible integration of AI across the research lifecycle, spanning from concept design to clinical and diagnostic applications. As AI continues to reshape scientific practices, Dr. Economou's discussion was pivotal for students preparing for careers where AI will play an increasingly transformative role.
